Electric locomotive with diesel temporary engine

The Gama cab was the first locomotive interior designed in collaboration with the Polish Railway Train Drivers’ Union, i.e. with the practitioners most familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of all the vehicles in operation to date. It also received praise from train drivers from Italy and Germany at Innotrans 2012 and subsequent visits. It is a locomotive model with a high reputation among specialists.

4 crash scenarios

The safety of operators and passengers on Gama Martahon locomotives is ensured by the special design of the driver’s cab and elements designed to minimise the effects of a possible collision. The reinforced cab cage, whose construction is made of top-quality steel, guarantees the driver’s safety. During a collision, the collision force is first absorbed by the coupling and the key role is played by energy absorbers which, in addition to absorbing the energy, also prevent the vehicles from climbing on top of each other. In the second phase, the crash energy is absorbed by the so-called honey comb – a block of specially shaped aluminium elements. A scraper mounted underneath the cabin prevents any elements from getting under the wheels of the vehicle. Pesa vehicles comply with the EN 15227 standard in four collision scenarios – collision with a vehicle of the same weight, a freight wagon, a truck and a passenger vehicle.

Driver in the spotlight

The Marathon range is tailored to the needs of users. The desktop was developed with input from drivers and instructors. Facilities include a toilet and a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, microwave, kettle). The engine’s power allows it to handle all sidings without any problems and also to bring a 3200t train up to a climb of as much as 7 per mille and to move the train on sections without traction voltage with a minimum range of 42km.

High standard

The locomotive's design meets the durability requirements of EN 12663 and, in terms of impacts, the EN 15227 standard. The emission standard is maintained in accordance with Euro IIIb.
