17 PESA Twist trams for Craiova. Contract signed.
The contract for the supply of 17 PESA Twist trams was solemnly signed today at Craiova City Hall. The purchase of rolling stock is part of the public transport modernisation project implemented by the Craiova authorities, financed by the Regional Operational Program for 2014-2020, under Priority Axis 4, ‘Supporting sustainable urban development’, and its aim is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through investments based on a sustainable plan urban mobility’.
“ – For me and the administration I led, the issue of public transport development is one of the key tasks that we implement based on a coherent, well-developed strategy for urban mobility. In recent years, residents have already felt favorable changes in transport, and thanks to the contract that has just been signed, they will be able to travel by modern, comfortable trams.” – said Lia Olguta Vasilescu, Mayor of Craiova.
Lia Vasilescu also emphasized that she is counting not only on the delivery of modern trams, but also hopes for fruitful cooperation with PESA in the development of rail transport in the city.
„ – Collaboration with an experienced company in the field of tram construction, such as PESA Bydgoszcz SA, whose notoriety is recognised at European level, can only be a joyful occasion for the successful implementation of the project financed by European founds.” – emphasized the Mayor.
“- In the last 20 years, PESA has participated in the implementation of projects for the development of public rail transport, the value of which amounts to several billion PLN. I assure the Mayor that we will not only deliver to Craiova trams that meet European standards, but we will share the experience and knowledge gained during the implementation of similar EU projects for several cities. “ – declared Krzysztof Zdziarski, CEO of PESA Bydgoszcz.
PESA has proposed for Craiova a new generation of Twist trams, which are designed as the base structure for the entire family of vehicles with the working name Tram.eu. The modularity of its construction will allow, depending on the client’s expectations, not only to freely arrange the interior space, but also to equip the trams with modern systems tailored to local technical conditions and needs.
PESA Twist Craiova are one-way trams, 27m long, with 58 seats and space for the disabled, equipped with diagnostic systems, air conditioning, Wi Fi and USB sockets.
“The PESA Twist for Craiova is our most modern tram project. We are ready to build a prototype, after testing and approval, we will start production, and deliveries will be completed in accordance with the contract in 22 months from the date of signing. “ – added Hanna Wiśniewska-Sibru, PESA representative on the Romanian market.
PESA trams also run in Cluj, Romania, and the company is currently producing vehicles for Iasi. It has already completed the approval tests of a Swing for Iasi, and the first trams will leave Bydgoszcz for Romania in July. The company also won tenders for the delivery of trams for Kosice in Slovakia and for the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia.
In total, PESA has produced almost 800 trams, over 170 of which for export. They carry passengers in Kiev, Moscow, Kaliningrad, Sofia, Hungarian Seged and Romanian Cluj, and many Polish cities / / Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Szczecin, Częstochowa, Katowice, Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Gorzów Wlp. and Elbląg. /
