Swing low-floor trams have been tested in challenging operating conditions and have confirmed their excellent functional parameters in cities in Poland (Warsaw, Gdańsk, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Toruń) and in other countries (Hungary, Bulgaria, Russia). We have so far delivered around 300 Swing trams. The vast experience gained in cooperation with our customers during operation provides the certainty that Swing trams from PESA Bydgoszcz will fulfil all of the requirements of their users. The vehicle’s interior is functional, spatial and comfortable for passengers, and offers a harmonious colour scheme. Thanks to its single-space structure, wide passages, the use of a platform for disabled passengers and a completely low floor, the efficient exchange of passengers, including those with reduced mobility, is ensured. Swing trams have air-conditioning both in the passenger compartment and in the driver’s cab.
Safety is no less important than comfort. The Swing has a structure with a compressive strength of 400 kN and collision resistance in accordance with the EN-15227 standard. The front of the vehicle has absorbers which absorb the energy from collisions with obstacles and other vehicles, ensuring the safety of passengers and the driver as well as substantially lowering the time and costs of any repairs.
The design of the Swing bogies is a solution tested and appreciated around the world, with a classic wheel set with axles. The structure of these elements is versatile and allows replacement of the motor bogies as well as their rotation in place under the vehicle’s body, thus prolonging the lifetime of the rims and the time before they need reprofiling. Servicing of the bogies is simple, intuitive and cheap.
The modern drive system provides the ability to recover energy. At the customer’s request, the tram can be provided with energy-storing capacitors, which help lower operating costs. Thanks to the drive used, it is possible to relocate the vehicle in case of lack of power supply. The energy collected in the batteries allows the tram to be moved a short distance without power from the contact system.
